LOST in Hawaii

In case you fell off the face of the earth in the past couple weeks, I recently got married on February 16, 2008 to Rebekah Hannagan...aka Mrs. Reyes. We spent our honeymoon in Hawaii, 5 days in Maui and 5 days in Oahu. Just to give you a rundown on the places we visited, here it is:

Day 1 (Sunday): shopped at Costco & Walmart in Kahului for food supplies, checked into Kaanapali Beach Club...formerly the Embassy Suites Vacation Resort...it is still pink.

Day 2 (Monday): ate buffet breakfast at hotel, walked along Kaanapali beach, walked around Lahaina during evening, ate dinner at Longhi's (linguine and clams) in Lahaina, ate some Lappert's ice cream (Kauai Pie).

Day 3 (Tuesday): ate buffet breakfast at hotel, walked in other direction along Kaanapali beach, drove to Wailea Beach for some swimming, cruised around Kihei for Local Motion and Baskin Robbins, caught sunset at Polo Beach, bought Maui Fish Tacos for dinner in Lahaina.

Day 4 (Wednesday): drove north to DT Fleming Beach Park for some swimming, spotted tons of sea turtles in waves, drove further north to blowhole area and spotted whales literally jumping full out of the water, stopped by Honolua Bay for a peek during return trip, had dinner at Lahaina Store Grille and Oyster Bar for only rooftop seating in all of Lahaina, ate more Lappert's ice cream (Caramel Cashew Turtle Cluster).

Day 5 (Thursday): ate buffet breakfast at hotel, walked in same direction along Kaanapali beach as Day 3 and layed out in sun, had lunch at poolside restaurant at hotel, chilled at the Kaanapali beach and pool, taught Becky how to snorkel, went to Whaler's Village in Kaanapali for dinner at Leilani's on the Beach (spotted whales galore splashing in the port from our oceanside view) and walked around shops.

Day 6 (Friday): packed and checked out of hotel, drove to side of road on the way to airport and threw Becky's lei into the ocean, flew 30 minutes to Oahu, drove to Mililani for supplies at Wal-Mart, some dinner at Zippy's, and breakfast treats for the weak at Napoleon's Bakery, checked into our condo at the Turtle Bay Estates (#150, East)

Day 7 (Saturday): walked 10 mins to Turtle Bay resort from our condo, attempted to go to Aloha Bowl swap meet (forgot all our cash at home) so instead went to Pearl Harbor, got some ice cream at the Pearl Harbor Navy Exchange food court, went to the Punch Bowl (National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific), walked around Waikiki for the evening on Kalakaua from the International Market Area to Nike Town.

Day 8 (Sunday): visited Mililani community church, went to Aloha Bowl swap meet for massive gift shopping within a 2 hour window (this time with our cash), for the first time during our stay it did rain as we walked around, went to the Pearl Harbor Navy Exchange food court again for a really late lunch, drove back through Haleiwa to stop at the Quiksilver store, caught the sunset at the Haleiwa beach

Day 9 (Monday): drove along north side of Oahu to Kailua to bring Becky to Kaiser (I realized that the Polynesian Cultural Center was only 15 mins away), swam and snorkeled at Kailua beach park (only blue-green water on entire island), ate at Jack in the Box and got some Baskin Robbins at Kailua, drove to Waimanalo to find Magnum PI's house (we think we found it but after looking it up online at home we found that it is totally rundown), slept on the beach and watched people get tossed from the massive waves at Sandy Beach, drove back the way we came from, stopped by the shrimp trucks in Kahuku (Giovanni's just closed so I had to settle for Fumi's for some spicy garlic shrimp), went back to condo for spaghetti and shrimp.

Day 10 (Tuesday): stopped by Shark's Cove for a look at the massive waves, visited Dole plantation for some ice cream and a ride on the Pineapple Express, drove to Ko'olina for some swimming and snorkeling at Lagoon #1, had the best burger ever at the JW Marriott near Lagoon #1, saw the most amazing hotel in the JW Marriott (they had baby hammerheads, tiger sharks, other fish, and even giant manta rays swimming along saltwater pond as we ate), napped at Lagoon #4 and caught sunset, stopped by shops at Waikele for some gifts from Blue Hawaii Surf and Local Motion outlets.

Day 11 (Wednesday): packed and checked out of condo, drove through Haleiwa for one last look-see, stopped by Wal-Mart in Haleiwa for last minute gifts, went to airport for return flight home.
