The Results: Mark Wins By KO at 4:15 in 1st Round

Sunday night a few of us got together after communion service to watch our long-time friend Mark Munoz (3-0) make his WEC debut at Arco Arena in Sacramento via the Versus Channel on Dish. There were actually quite a few houses amongst our friends having WEC parties that night in Vallejo just to watch Mark's fight, including his home church at Sacramento where I heard almost 3/4 of them packed the Lacson's home to watch the fight together. After seeing his menacing 6'6" opponent, Chuck Grigsby (15-3), walk into the ring, we had no idea what to expect. He had about 6" height and reach advantage on Mark. Once the fight began, we just waited to see how long it would take for Mark to get the taller opponent on the mat and go to town. Somewhere about 3 minutes into the match, they were on the mat, with Mark on top. He dropped some bombs on Grigsby while he was in the full and side guard positions. What happened next seemed unreal, where Mark was in the standing position at Grigsby's feet, trying to avoid his kicks, as his opponent lay flat on his back. We started yelling and jumping up and down as Marked dropped some well-timed furious overhand rights and connected with Grigsby's face before the referree stopped the fight at 4:15 into the match. You could literally see Grigsby's eyes roll back as he was clearly knocked out. We went crazy at the house. Absolutely bananas. I read in some articles that Grigsby actually had to be carted off in a stretcher during the commercial break. Mark then ran around the ring in excitement, raising his finger up to God in thanks. We rewinded the DVR a few times to watch the ending again, and to see the camera pan across the arena after Mark's victory before his hometown crowd. We even saw a group of our friends all wearing the souvenir shirts that Mark's sister was selling earlier during the tailgate party. Mark's fight was the 2nd of 4 televised fights from the nights 11 matches, with the main event obviously being Uriah Faber vs Jens Pulver. It was a night to remember for all of us. Mark signed up for 6 fights with WEC, so we have 5 more to see. Keep it up Mark!!!
